Cade by V.A. Dold

Anna James is single again, finally. In her opinion, men are self-centered and will never love her for who she is, a beautiful, plus sized woman. All except the fantasy man that she’s been meeting in her dreams for five years.
She just never expected her fantasy to be a real live alpha shifter...
Cade Le Beau isn't what he seems. He’s a billionaire wolf. A Shifter. He laments his missed chance six months ago to meet his fantasy woman in the flesh. Just as his second chance presents itself, his fantasy woman, his mate, is threatened by the local mob boss and her ex-husband. Now, he has forty eight hours to deal with this threat once and for all or chance losing her again.
Is it Anna who’s in danger, or the humans who unwittingly threaten her?
The heat is on the moment they lay eyes on each other. Neither, age, children, horrid ex-husbands, nor mob bosses will stop this love affair.

Prologue- The Plan “Emma, we need to take matters into our own hands or they’ll never find their mates.” Isaac Le Beau set his snifter down before he crushed the glass in frustration. “We have seven virile, grown sons, who after two hundred years haven’t found their mates. If we don’t step in and give a hand to the wolf-goddess Luperca, our sons may spend their lives alone, without children to raise and without their other half to love. Dang it, I want some grandchildren, while I’m still young enough to enjoy them.” He slowly raised his head and gazed at the love of his life, Emma. She was a unique blend of Romanian gypsy heritage and a very powerful voodoo priestess. Even after two centuries her exotic sparkling dark eyes and compact killer soft curves left him breathless. Some would classify her as a big, beautiful woman. He called her ‘sex on a stick‘. He swore she controlled every beat of his heart. The warmth and agreement in those mesmerizing eyes silently prompted him to continue. “Would you do your high-priestess voodoo thing and ask the spirits to identify their mates? With some influence we could bring them together, so they can recognize them on their own. I don’t want to force a meeting. Simply provide the opportunity. How about it, will you give it a try?” Isaac asked. He knew Emma wouldn’t deny him. “Of course, I’ll perform the ritual, but I can’t give you any guarantees. All I can do is try. If we are truly blessed, Luperca will appear to me and give this endeavor her approval. I want our sons happy and I’d love to have a dozen grandchildren running around the house, too.” Isaac opened his arms wide, inviting Emma to slide onto his lap. He buried his face into her hair breathing in her unique scent. The familiar fragrance calmed him like nothing else. He was confident everything would change for his sons very soon. He could hardly wait for each of them to meet their one true mate. No wolf should go fourteen hundred years alone. Two weeks later, they enjoyed the cool breeze that came off the river, flowing through the open windows. A secret little smile lit up Emma’s entire face and her fingers tapped a tune on her cut crystal wine glass. He knew that expression well. “Out with it, Emma,” Isaac said with a grin of his own. “What is it you’re dying to tell me?” He waited patiently for her to tell him her grand news. Emma actually bounced in her seat. “I received answers from the goddess.” She clapped her hands excitedly. “Cade's mate is in New Orleans right now. Her name is Anna James. The goddess said she has had many unhappy years, but is now open to finding her one true love. Isn’t that fantastic? Two days from now she is destined to be in Jackson Square and then stop to eat lunch at Crescent City Brewhouse. She’ll be in the bar around eleven-thirty. As for the rest of the boys, the goddess said we must have patience. She’ll grant me visions in my dreams or come to me for each of them when the time is right.” A surge of excited energy rushed through him as a hundred butterflies took up residence in his stomach. This must be what it felt like to win the lottery he thought. “We’ll have to move fast. We need to think of a way to get Cade there at the right time.” “Maybe we can come up with a way to use Jackson square? Cade sits there so often it might be an option?” Emma offered. “Maybe.” He rubbed his chin, forehead crinkled in deep thought. “First we need to get him out of his home office and into the French Quarter. The bank called yesterday about a restaurant up for sale. I’ll have them schedule a meeting with Cade to review our investments and recommend this new opportunity.” He tapped his chin as the plan took shape, mumbling as he worked it out. He stood and paced across the room, prowled like the animal he was. He couldn’t think properly sitting down. As he strode back and forth, he noted she had settled into an easy chair to watch him. “That’ll get him to the city,” he thought aloud as he continued to tap his finger on his chin. “You’re right about his constant people watching, I’m sure he’ll take a walk and perhaps sit a while. A possibility.” Isaac cupped his jaw in his hand and rubbed the coarse stubble. A satisfied smile tugged at his lips. “I’ve got it! I’ll ask him to meet me for lunch at Crescent City at eleven-thirty. Richie tends the bar, he’ll know the mating signs. When Cade arrives, goddess willing, he will sense his mate. I’ll have Richie tell him I won’t be able to make it. If I’m not there for lunch he will be free to spend time with her.” Smile broadening, he folded his arms across his chest and nodded. They had a solid plan. In less than a week he could have his first daughter-in-law. Isaac settled into his leather captain’s chair. “I’ll arrange everything with Richie." He felt two hundred years younger, like the bold robust young man who had swept his mate off her feet. By the wistful expression Emma wore, he must look it, too. As he sipped his rich, sweet cognac, he imagined a baby in Emma’s lap, sleeping peacefully while a toddler played with blocks on the floor. His sigh brought her attention to him with a raised brow. She would laugh if she knew what he was dreaming. A smile continued to pull at his lips. He couldn’t help it. He was very pleased with his little romance ambush, positive it would be successful. Cade was in for a wonderful surprise in two days’ time. “Now that we have the plan, what do you think she will be like? Did the goddess give you any hints?” She laughed. “No, you silly man, the goddess doesn’t have time for things like that.” “You know he has always favored curvy women. I sure hope she isn’t skinny, he might not even look at her if she is.” A little shiver ran through him. “Remember the gal he dated who looked a lot like you? She was a plus sized beauty. Cade never said anything, but Marcus drove him crazy with that ‘Oedipus’ nickname.” He laughed as he recalled the antics of the boys. “You’re right, he does like a woman with meat on her bones. All the boys do.”

Chapter 1
Damn.  She was going to make her way to his table.  A tall leggy blonde with bed-hair and a mini-skirt the size of a postage stamp.  As if he needed more complications in his life.  Women, who needed them anyway?  All he wanted was to watch the rugby game on the large-screen television in the bar seeing he wasn’t welcome in his own home.  That wasn’t too much to ask for was it?  The blonde had been checking him out since he’d arrived, trying to catch his eye, giving him toothy grins which showed the gap between her front teeth.  She wasn’t unattractive.  He wasn’t immune to the females of the species.  He just wasn’t in a good space, wasn’t in the zone.  Of course, the gap-toothed leggy blonde didn’t know that.  She thought she’d found a man desperate for female company, not realising that was the last thing he needed.  She was carrying two beers obviously thinking she could win him over with booze.  He took a sip from the beer he’d been nursing through the whole of the first half.  It was still half-full.  Just as the blonde was about to shoulder her way past the couple toasting each other in front of his table in the crowded bar, he felt a large hand on his shoulder. “Kyle man!  What you doing here?  Thought you were going to be watching the game at home?”  The blonde made eye-contact as she passed his table, the two beer glasses held high to avoid spillage as she jostled her way through the crowd.  Maybe it had all been in his head.  Maybe she wasn’t bringing him a beer and trying to pick him up.  He turned to face the tall muscular man with a full beard and clean-shaven head who had tapped his shoulder.
“Hey JT, I can ask you the same question.  What are you doing here?”  The crowd in the bar groaned in unison as the local team dropped the ball just as they were about to score.
“Miss-communication, if you know what I mean.  Posting the fixture list on the fridge didn’t stop the missus from organising a baby shower for one of her workmates in my home during the game.  No way I could try and watch the game with hordes of noisy women oohing and ahing over tiny items of clothing, and shaking rattles and stuff.  I called your house to see if I could come over…”
“What did the bitch say?”  Kyle took another sip of his beer.  An intercept had resulted in the local team crossing the line to score a try.  A huge cheer went up from the crowd in the bar.  The gap-toothed blonde was standing to his right still clutching the two beers.
“Just that you’d stormed out in a huff.  I figured you might have come here.  Kid was throwing a tantrum in the background so luckily that cut the conversation short.  Problems in paradise?”  JT stroked his beard and winked at the gap-toothed blonde.
“Don’t even go there.  If it wasn’t for my boy ...  ”  Kyle didn’t finish his sentence.  Another cheer went up from the crowd.  “Did you see that pass?  Magic, pure magic.  I swear he has hands like glue.  How he held onto that ball…”
“So do you come here often?”  The blonde’s voice came from his right, soft and husky.  As if she practised trying to get the right modulated sexy tone.  Nobody could naturally have a voice like that.
“Nope,” Kyle sighed, “I’m usually watching the game in the comfort of my own home.
“We’ve both been kicked out by our women,” JT clinked his glass with that of Kyle’s, “Cheers mate!  Here’s to us homeless men.”
“Oh, you’re married?”  The blonde couldn’t hide the disappointment in her voice.  Obviously, thought Kyle, she had morals and didn’t mess with married men.
“Sort of,” muttered Kyle as he gulped down the last of his beer.
“Well, here are two beers for you guys.  Enjoy.”  The blonde handed over the beers with her gap-toothed grin.  “I won’t interrupt your man-time together.  See, not all women are evil.”  The two men watched as she elbowed her way through the crowd back to the bar counter.
“Tempting,” said JT as he grabbed one of the beers the blonde had left on the table.
“Dangerous,” added Kyle, “Way too dangerous.  My life is already complicated enough.”
“So why did you storm out this time?  Note how I stressed this time,” JT chuckled.  “It’s your frigging house man; I can’t understand why you are always the one to leave.”
“You’re a fine one to talk!  Look who’s not watching the game in the comfort of his home either!”  Kyle disliked beer.  He hated the bitter taste on his tongue and the way it made his stomach feel bloated.  Why he’d ordered a beer he had no idea.  It was just something you drank if you watched rugby in a bar.  He picked up the beer the blonde had left and downed half the glass in one gulp.  Maybe beer would smooth the tension building up inside him.  Hard liquor would just make things worse.  He’d drink and drink until he passed out.  Once he started he wouldn’t be able to stop.  “As the game was about to start, she put on a DVD for Max to watch.  Bananas in Pyjamas.  Seriously.  A good rugby game is showing and she frigging puts on Bananas in Pyjamas.  It’s like she goes out of her way to piss me off.”
“I feel your pain, man, I feel your pain.  That’s just being a bitch.”  JT patted Kyle on the back.  “You eaten yet?  How’s about we make a move from here and go to the steakhouse across the road and grab something to eat.  There’s no way we’re going to lose this game.  Come on, let’s get out of here.  Too much noise, too many people, it’s freaking me out.”
“And the leggy blonde is too tempting,” Kyle said with a laugh as he finished the beer in another gulp.
“Too right my man.  You know me too well.”
I was born in Cape Town, South Africa. I’ve been married and divorced and had three lovely children.
Some might say I have gypsy blood as I’ve moved around a lot, but really I’ve used my teaching qualifications to teach in different countries and travel the world. I have one of those bucket list type of thingies – a list of things to do and places to go before I die. Before moving to Kyiv in Ukraine where I live currently, I lived and worked in Tanzania with armies of ants and frequent power cuts at the foot of Kilimanjaro
For some strange reason, things just seem to happen to me, and this gives me an endless supply of material to write more books. Writing is something I always loved to do from a very young age, and I’ve always been an avid reader. I put my weak eyesight down to all those nights of reading under the covers by torchlight. The teacher part of me will tell you that to be a good writer, you probably need to be a good reader as well. But, enough talk about work-related stuff.
Because of my travels, I enjoy writing articles about the places I’ve seen, sharing my trip with armchair travelers at home. My fist travel book is The Great Mountain to Mountain Safari, and is about my road trip from Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, to Table Mountain in South Africa and back again, with only my teenage daughter for company.
I believe that life is a series of adventures. Hope yours are all good!

My Review
I love the different aspect of this story.  I got so caught up in it that I lost track of time and then I couldn't put it down when I did notice how long I had been reading.
Felicity is your average young ambitious women.  Just wanting to move up in her career and show the world what she's made of Felicity digs herself a bit of a hole.  While digging this whole....she meets Alister a hot and demanding DOM.
Once Felicity gets involved with Alister she has to keep her job a secret in order to get the story she's looking for.  But she doesn't realize that her heart will get in the way of her dreams.
Can she keep her head about her when her life finally seems to be falling into place?

This is a must read!  I hope she continues on with this storyline because I would definitely read more!

She has seen the ugly in the world and trusting someone again isn't a price she is willing to pay." - Emily, TheSUBCLUBbooks

A ride that leaves you scatter brained, your heart aching, pounding, trying to catch your breath, and trying to figure out WTH is going to happen next???? “Zoey Derrick had me within the first two pages. Her characters are alive and completely relateable, likeable and down-right loveable. I empathize, I cheer, I fear, I love with them. It takes a good solid book with a solid story and direction to get a hold of me, not that it matters, so to me for this book to grab right out the gate like this, AMAZING!” -  Barb - Amazon Review

Falling by J Bennet

Welcome to My review
The intellectual challenge of college and the warm embrace of a serious boyfriend have given Maya the wings she needs to break away from her bookish and shy reserve. Her ideal life comes crashing down when she and her boyfriend are accosted by a stranger. A stranger with glowing hands.

Maya's boyfriend is killed. She is kidnapped. Changed.

A rescue comes, but not soon enough.

Maya’s senses sharpen, her body becomes strong and agile, and she develops the ability to visually see the emotions of those around her as colorful auras…beautiful auras…tempting auras.
And then there’s the song…

Now, Maya must struggle to control the murderous appetite that fuels her new abilities, accept her altered condition and learn to trust two vigilante half-brothers she never knew she had. As she joins the battle against a secret network of powerful and destructive beings that call themselves "Angels", Maya vows to find and destroy the one who changed her.

On the bright side, at least Maya's oldest half-brother has stopped trying to kill her.

My review
This book was really different then other books that I have read.  BUT that's a good thing.  It has a great and different storyline filled with adventure. The characters choosing between right and wrong and good and evil.   I was always wanting to know what happens next and couldn't put it down.

The new kind of "evil creatures" are called Angels.  Yet they're not the kind of angels you would normally think of.  These Angles are more like Vampires, but not. They feed on living beings energy.  Now Maya has to try and fight her urges and not feed on humans, but her song keeps getting to her.

She has her two long lost brothers to try and help her keep on the strait and narrow though one of them wants to kill her. Trusting herself and her brothers might be a little hard to come by, but deep inside she knows it's possible.

Can't wait to see where this story goes.

Broken Hearted Ghoul

A review of Broken Hearted Ghoul by Joyce and Jim Lavene.

It’s been two years since Skye Mertz agreed to drive Abe’s Taxi for the Dead, transporting his zombie workers back to the man who gave them an additional twenty years of life. She’s raising her daughter, with the help of her ghostly mother-in-law, and keeps looking for what killed her  husband the night she died.
Now she has a partner—a housewife working off her zombie husband’s service—and she’s met a sorcerer with amnesia. It shouldn’t be surprising that a broken hearted ghoul, bent on getting revenge, should show up too. After all, there’s no rest for the dead.

My Review
What a new way to tell a Zombie tale!

Skye Mertz and her husband died in a car accident two years ago, but Skye made a deal with Abe in order to stay "alive" and finish raising their daughter. In exchange for her 20 years she is turned into a zombie and then has to pick up zombies whose 20 years have expired and brings them back to Abe, so they can die their final death.

What happened from there.... she wanted to know. What she didn’t know was that not only were they zombies, but also ghouls, werewolves and magicians who roamed the streets of Nashville.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Skye and her new partner Debbie. I didn’t want to quit reading it. It was an easy and enjoyable read. I hope there are more to come in the series.
I give 5 stars!!!

The Review
This is a very exciting story, it pulls you forward page by page. Mary Hart Perry's descriptions paint a very vivid and real picture for her audience. This story creates an excitingly unique journey for the reader.

I quite enjoyed how approachable the characters are. The relationships between the characters tell you as much about the individuals as the descriptions of them do, making for a well-rounded cast of characters.

All in all this is a story that I won’t soon forget. It was brilliant, well written novel by Mary Hart Perry that I`d definitely recommend to anyone and everyone.

5 Stars all the way!!!
